Background checks for Bupa

Congratulations on getting closer to being at the heart of Bupa! We're looking forward to having you join us – but before this happens, we need to complete your background checks.

On this page, you will find everything you need to know before completing your check, as well as some helpful hints if you get stuck.

Your checks are personal to you - there may be different checks required depending on the business area you are applying for. Your Recruitment Partner will advise you of what checks you'll need to complete.

The email you received informing you of this check as part of your employment process will include the login information for Equifax Fit2work.

Before you get started

  1. Our background checks are free.
  2. Please make sure any information you provide is accurate.
  3. You'll get an email from Equifax with a link to the Fit2Work platform. You'll be guided through the process from there.
  4. As soon as you click through Equifax's email, you'll be prompted to create a username and password.
  5. You'll need to prepare your previous addresses for last 5 years, including any overseas addresses.
  6. When you register, you'll be asked to upload a selfie of yourself holding your photo ID close to your face. Please refer to the FAQs for more information.
  7. To complete the check, you'll have to upload copies of your identity documents - more info on this in the ID Requirements Section.
  8. We'll need your electronic signature to confirm you consent to us sharing your info with Equifax Fit2work and ACIC (Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission).
  9. Don’t forget to click 'Submit Check'. You'll get a message saying your check is submitted.
  10. Don't forget to tell your referees you'll be asking for references, so they can look out for their emails too.

What happens next?

After you've finished your check, your Talent Acquisition Partner will let you know what's next. Occasionally, (Equifax) Fit2Work may reach out and contact you via email, SMS, or phone, should they need any additional information or documents.

ID requirements

You might have to upload up to four identity documents depending on the check. We'll let you know what kind of check you'll need to complete, and you'll be guided through the process automatically when you click through from Equifax Fit2Work's email.

Identity documents you'll be asked for should include your full name, date of birth, and a photograph (e.g. passport, driver's licence). At least one document will be verified through Fit2Work's electronic ID verification. If none of your documents can be verified, you will need to upload a certified copy of one of your photo IDs.

If you've provided identity documents under your former name, such as a maiden name, you'll need to provide evidence of your name change. ACIC has advised that expired identity documents will no longer be acceptable.

The time to complete your check will depend on the type of check you’re completing. We advise to allow at least 30 minutes to complete your check.

Please complete your background check as quickly as possible after receiving your welcome email. Bupa cannot proceed with your employment application process until your check is complete.

You're able to use any device – mobile, tablet or desktop computer – to complete your check. We recommend using the Google Chrome browser if possible.

The selfie creates a link between yourself and the documents you upload. You must supply the selfie holding one of your photo ID documents next to your face AND add clear copies of your four identity documents.

You will be asked to take a photo of yourself holding one of the photo IDs you will be uploading. The details on your photo ID will have to be clearly visible.

You can upload a pre-taken ‘selfie’. Alternatively, we can send a link to your mobile (choose ‘send link to my phone’) so that you can take a ‘selfie’ and upload it from your mobile.

fit2work's Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Checks are fast and reliable. Up to 70% of checks are returned within 15 minutes of submitting online. 30% of checks may be referred to 'manual processing' for further investigations by the police. Once a check has been sent to manual processing, it may take up to 10 working days or longer to return due to the complexity of the request.

When uploading your documents, if you don't have the required documents to meet the 100 points of ID, you can select a button titled "I Don't Have Documents". This will allow you to nominate the documents you do have and put in a reason for not having any further documents.

When you log into your fit2work account, you will be able to view the status of your application in the current checks tab.

Please phone fit2work support on 1300 525 525 (AU) or 0800 300 322 (NZ) or email support@fit2work.com.au

Your professional references should ideally be two people who have managed you within the last five years. Please check with your Recruitment Partner if a character reference will be accepted.

You will need to list your addresses for the past five years, including addresses if you have lived in countries other than Australia. If you have lived in China, New Zealand, Canada or the UK, you will be prompted to submit an additional document during your check.
